Green Remodeling Projects NEEDED for Education Series
Austin Energy Green Building is developing an education series for green remodeling and is looking for projects to participate between February and July 2010. Each month will include a field trip to a project at the specified stage of construction:

Energy Audit – with ECAD auditor for visual inspection of weatherization, duct leakage testing, and other energy efficiency concerns. Identify and discuss problem issues and remedy opportunities for various energy improvement strategies. |

Project Analysis – interview with client to determine issues, goals, and scope of project, as well as advise client on green strategies. Includes building assessment inspection to determine opportunities and challenges. Also, inspection for presence of contaminants (combustion gas backdrafting, garage wall sealing, humidity and moisture issues, filtration quality, fresh air ventilation, lead-based paint, asbestos products, etc. and opportunities to make energy, water, and indoor air quality improvements. |

Deconstruction and Salvage –review of deconstruction methods and materials that can be salvaged for reuse or recycling |

Insulation, Frame Walk, Roof and Attic Inspection – determine feasibility of retrofitting a sealed attic in an existing home, installing a radiant barrier, mounting solar photovoltaic system, spray foam insulation, etc. Provides onsite review of passive solar design elements and designing for the site, accessibility features, site management techniques, including construction waste management, Advanced Framing techniques, green products and building materials, framing for mechanicals, good air barrier and insulation installation, radiant barriers, flashing and moisture management details, HVAC duct layout, sealing, and contamination control, pressure relief, and daylighting strategies. |

May include kitchen and bath remodels, window and door replacement, home performance and design improvements (weatherization, radiant barrier, sealed attic, duct sealing, solar panels, shading devices), outdoor living, and moisture control (ventilation, drainage, mold remediation) |

AEGB Staff Bryan Bomer Elected to ACC Board
AEGB Residential Green Building and Sustainability Specialist Bryan Bomer was elected Chairperson of the Building Construction Technology Advisory Board. The Board reviews and approves the school's Building Construction Technology cirriculum changes. Bryan has a B.S. in Construction Systems and Construction Management and is looking forward to strengthening AEGB's connection to ACC.
