Multi-Family—Rebate Levels

Austin Energy offers rebates that can cover up to 80% of the costs for installing solar screens and film, adding ceiling insulation, and sealing leaky air-duct systems in apartment buildings

Rebates for Window Treatments
To improve the energy efficiency of your window systems:

Add solar screens on single-pane windows

• $1.88 per sq ft (was $1.25 per sq ft)
• For all orientations except north. Must have a shading coefficient
  of .40 or less.

Add solar screens on double-pane windows

• $1.50 per sq ft (was $1.00 per sq ft)
• For all orientations except north. Must have a shading coefficient
  of .40 or less.

Add solar film

• $1.88 per sq ft for single-pane windows
• $1.50 per sq ft for double-pane windows
• For all orientations except north. Must have a shading coefficient
  of .42 or less.

Replace windows with Low-e windows

• $2.00 per sq ft of window assembly
• For all orientations. Must have a solar heat gain coefficient of .35 or less as certified by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC).

Rebates for Insulation
To improve the energy efficiency of your ceiling, attic, and roof insulation:

Add insulation if your existing ceiling insulation is R-7 or less

• $0.23 per sq ft (was $.15 per sq ft)
• Must achieve insulation level of R-30
• Square footage based on attic floor covering conditioned space

Add insulation if your existing ceiling insulation is R-8 through R-16

• $0.15 per sq ft (was $.10 per sq ft)
• Must achieve insulation level of R-30
• Square footage based on attic floor covering conditioned space

Add insulation if your existing ceiling insulation is R-17 through R-22

• $0.05 per sq ft
• Must achieve insulation level of R-30
• Square footage based on attic floor covering conditioned space

Add R-8 or higher to roof insulation

• $0.10 per sq ft
• Square footage is based on the area of conditioned space of the uppermost floor only
• Existing roof system must have an overall R-value of R-11 or less

Rebates for Roof Coating
To improve the energy efficiency of your roof:

Add reflective roof coating

• $0.15 per sq ft
• Existing roof material must not be reflective or must not have a reflective coating
• New roof or coating must have a minimum reflectivity of 75%
• Square footage based on roof covering conditioned space

Rebates for Air Duct Systems
To improve the energy efficiency of your air duct systems:

Seal leaky duct returns, supply buckets and air handlers for AC systems with uncased fan coils

• $0.38 per sq ft (was $.25 per sq ft) of conditioned living space
• Eligibility based on results of initial air duct testing

Seal leaky ducts, supply buckets and air handlers for AC systems with electric upflow, horizontal, electric-cased fan or heat pump systems

• $0.25 per sq ft of conditioned living space
• Eligibility based on results of initial air duct testing

Seal leaky ducts, supply buckets and air handlers for AC systems with gas heat or stud-mounted air handlers

• $0.20 per square foot of conditioned living space
• Eligibility based on results of initial air duct testing

Replace or improve duct system

• $1.75 per linear foot of duct system
• Must be pre-approved by Austin Energy

Rebates for HVAC Systems
To improve the energy efficiency of your HVAC systems:

Replace 2 or more split-system Air Conditioners rated 14.0 SEER/12.0 EER or greater

• Rebates start at $200 per system
• Rebates increase to $550 per system for a 17.0 SEER/13.5 EER or greater
• Rebates are for 1.5 ton up to 5 ton systems
• Both the inside coil and the outside condensing units must be replaced

Replace 2 or more packaged unit Air Conditioners rated 14.0 SEER/11.3 EER or greater

• Rebates start at $300 per system
• Rebates increase to $500 per system for a 15.0 SEER/13.0 EER or greater
• Rebates are for 1.5 ton up to 5 ton systems
• Both the inside coil and the outside condensing units must be replaced

Replace 2 or more split-system heat pumps rated 14.0 SEER/12.0 EER or greater

• $250 per system
• Rebates increase to $600 per system for a 15.0 SEER/13.0 EER or greater
• Rebates are for 1.5 ton up to 5 ton systems
• Both the inside coil and the outside condensing units must be replaced

Replace 2 or more packaged-unit heat pumps rated 14.0 SEER/11.3 EER minimum

• $350 per system
• Rebates increase to $550 per system for a 17.0 SEER/13.5 EER or greater
• Rebates are for 1.5 ton up to 5 ton systems
• Both the inside coil and the outside condensing units must be replaced

Rebates for Lighting Systems
To improve the energy efficiency of your Lighting systems:

Convert kitchen fixtures from incandescent to fluorescent

• $35.00 per kitchen fixture
• A 50-watt minimum power reduction is required
• Replacement Fixture must be ENERGY STAR® rated

Convert bathroom fixtures from incandescent to fluorescent

• $30.00 per bathroom fixture
• A 50-watt minimum power reduction is required
• Replacement Fixture must be ENERGY STAR® rated

Replace existing incandescent lighting with ENERGY STAR® rated compact fluorescent lighting

• $3.00 per compact fluorescent lamp (CFL)
• $4.00 per special lamp (compact fluorescent floods, globes, or candelabras)
• Bulb must have a minimum Kelvin Rating of 2700K to closely match incandescent lighting quality

Replace lighting in common areas

• Rebates are available for common area interior lighting provided the lighting operates for at least four consecutive hours between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., May through October
• All rebates must be pre-approved by Austin Energy
