Update on the Austin Energy Resource, Generation, and Climate Protection Plan to 2020
City Council adopted the Austin Climate Protection Plan (ACPP) in 2007 to build a more sustainable community. Among other goals, the ACCP seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from City of Austin operations. Austin Energy (AE) developed a Resource, Generation and Climate Protection Plan to 2020 (the Plan) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within its generation portfolio.
Council Requests Affordability Measures
City Council adopted the generation Plan but delayed implementation until AE develops affordability measures for Council approval. Among other considerations, the affordability measures will track the competitiveness of Austin Energy electric rates among all customer classes against rates in other large Texas cities.
Customers to Provide Input to the Affordability Measures
To solicit customer input, Austin Energy has held a series of stakeholder meetings. The goal is to develop proposed affordability measures for public review by mid-August.
