About Plug-in Electric Vehicles
Plug-in EVs accelerate quickly and quietly for a smooth driving experience. There are two types of PEVs. Battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) run off 100% battery power with no gasoline back-up; they have a range of 75-100 miles and are perfect for 90% of Austin area commuters.

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), also known as extended-range electric vehicles, have electric motors and onboard gasoline engines. Because PHEVs have a gasoline back-up, they can handle your daily commutes and longer trips.
To experience the unique Plug-in EV driving experience, schedule a test drive at a local dealership. Plug-In America tracks changes and new PEV developments among car manufacturers. You also can find links to PEV dealers near your zip code. If you’re not ready for a test drive, stay in touch by signing up for our
e-newsletter, The Current.

Special Offers for PEV Owners
To make ownership easier, Austin Energy offers residential customers and PEV owners a rebate of 50% of the cost of the purchase and installation of a Level 2 Charging Station. You can plug-in the car into a regular outlet, but a Level 2 station gives you a faster charge. The maximum rebate amount for a Level 2 (240V station) is $1,500.

To qualify for the rebate, you must be an Austin Energy customer and use an approved contractor. Apply here or here for the rebate and email us with questions.

Charging PEVs
The Austin Energy Plug-in EVerywhere ™ network subscription plan offers unlimited charging for less than $5 per month at more than 110 Plug-in EVerywhere™ stations at 57 locations.

Sign up to buy a pre-paid Plug-in EVerywhere card. You can also locate a station on the Plug-in EVerywhere map.
