Power Saver™ Program
Solar Photovoltaics—
Registered Installer Requirements

To be a registered contractor for Austin Energy’s Solar Photovoltaic (PV) rebate, at least one employee of the contractor company must meet one of the following requirements and then pass an exam developed and administered by Austin Energy:

Requirement Option 1

Hold current proof of 40 hours of PV training and have installed two PV systems—one can be in a training environment; the other a minimum 1kWdc grid tied.

The PV installer must have taken a lead role in the installation of the 1kWdc PV grid tied system. A lead role is defined as a foreman, supervisor, or site manager responsible for the quality of the installation, or an experienced person performing the trade without supervision. There may be present several workers who do not carry responsibility, but who are aspiring to a lead role. The kWdc solar installation must be a system with a grid tied inverter and be subject to a complete electrical permit and inspection process by a permitting authority.

Requirement Option 2
Either hold a letter from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) stating they are qualified to sit for the NABCEP test, or hold a certificate verifying they have passed the NABCEP test. (NOTE: All registered solar contractors must obtain NABCEP certification within two years of being added to Austin Energy's registered solar PV contractor list.)

Insurance Coverage
All solar installers participating in the Solar Photovoltaics offering must provide a currently valid certificate of insurance proving the following coverage:

 $500,000 Combined Single Limit
Bodily Injury and Property Damage/$500,000 General Aggregate
Austin Energy must be listed as the Certificate Holder
