Power Saver™ Program
Solar Photovoltaics—Community Benefits

A Community Investment in Solar Technology
Using solar technology provides many benefits to the Austin community:

Reduces the need to generate fossil-fuel based power
Lowers our long-term investment costs for new electric facilities
 Enhances our City's environment
 Creates opportunities for economic development

Your commitment to solar technology today, will set the pace for solar technology innovation for Austin and the nation.

Protecting the Environment
Austin Energy is committed to increasing solar power in our community. Our goal is to install 100 MW of solar facilities by 2020.

Solar energy systems are quiet and produce clean energy with no emissions. Installing 1-kilowatt of solar power is the equivalent of planting 50 trees, which help keep the air clean.

Austin Energy is also committed to installing solar projects at local schools, libraries and community centers. This is aimed at better familiarizing the public with solar energy equipment and its operation.

The Utility is also a partner with other City of Austin Departments in the development of the nation's first affordable "net-zero energy" subdivision. The 100-home subdivision in Southeast Austin will be powered by solar energy.

Economic Development
Austin Energy created an economic development incentive to bring solar manufacturing to Austin. The solar rebate is increased to $5.60 per watt for solar installations that use solar equipment manufactured in Austin.
