Project Description
This 3,000 sq ft. lake house is located
within a small residential neighborhood that was originally
master-planned by architect Christopher Alexander. Key design
concepts included siting the house for optimum views of the
lake, solar orientation and integration into Alexander's scheme.
The utilization of sustainable elements in this home resulted
in a three star rating by the Austin Green Building Program.
Along with natural lighting and ventilation,
shaded fenestration was utilized extensively to reduce energy
costs. Allowances for a future rainwater collection system
and PV system are also provided. The array of green materials
used on this project includes SIP panels for all the walls
and roof, which gives an excellent energy rating for the house.
Other materials included use of Hardi-panels, stucco exterior
(minimal paint), local cedar trim, tile roof with radiant
barriers, high efficiency HVAC equipment, and low or no VOC
paints and carpets.
