New Single Family Home Rating 2008.2
Now in Effect

Why a new version of the Rating?

On January 1, 2008, the 2006 International Energy Code and Austin Amendments went into effect for all homes permitted as of this date.  Our goal is to assure that homes rated by AEGB are at least 15% more energy-efficient than code, that they reflect a gradually rising bar in regard to all aspects of green building, and that they are in the vanguard of sustainable rating programs nation-wide.

Manual J Inputs and Reports

As in the past, a correct Manual J calculation for the sizing of heating and cooling equipment remains a critically important part of the Rating and must be submitted and approved by AEGB before any Rating inspections can be made.  In case you were unaware of this, sizing by Manual J has been a code requirement for many years.  Be sure the person performing this calculation (mechanical contractor, engineer or other qualified person) has the current copy of the "AEGB Manual J Inputs for Single Family" sheet.

Questions about the Rating or any problems?

Since this is a new version of the Rating, we would appreciate being notified of any errors you might find, so we can correct them immediately. The Single Family Home Rating 2008.2 is available online. Note that the "Guide to the Single-Family Rating" has not yet been updated on our website. We hope to have that for you soon. In the meantime, most of the items on 2008.2 are covered in the Guide for 8.1, which will remain on our website until replaced with the update.

Please contact your AEGB staff representative or Mary McLeod, AEGB Residential Coordinator, with any questions or problems.

Haven't been rating your homes but would like to?

If you would like to rate your homes but have not done so in the past two years or have never done so before, you must attend a Residential Orientation before submitting a Rating. Orientation meetings are typically held once a month. Call Mary McLeod at 512-482-5302 or register on our website to receive the invitation which is sent out a week in advance.
