Green Building Staff Changes

Toye Goodson, Green Building's Administrative Specialist, recently accepted a position in the Marketing Communications Department of Austin Energy. Her new title is Education Coordinator with her major responsibility being the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival. The AERSF serves five counties and is the largest regional science fair in Texas. Pre-K through high school students who have won at their respective school science fairs advance to this regional fair. AERSF winners in middle and high school have a chance to compete at the State level, while up to five "Best of Fair" high school winners advance directly to the international science fair competition."Being Education Coordinator is a wonderful opportunity, even though I will miss working with green building," says Toye.

Rich MacMath, an Architect with the Residential Program, was approached by HDR Inc., a national architecture/engineering firm, during an executive search for staff to create a new Austin office. Rich will be a Sustainability Design Project Manager for HDR, working within the company's sustainable design services group. He will work on green projects in several states.

Rich felt that the firm was a great fit for him because they have a strong commitment to sustainability; in fact, HDR was the first A/E firm to join USGBC. The firm also completed an office building in McKinney, Texas that was one of the first buildings in the country to receive a LEED Core & Shell Platinum Pre-Certification rating. "This was not an easy decision to make," says Rich, "But, it is an opportunity for me to grow both professionally and personally."

We wish both of these long-time Green Building program staff the best of luck in their new endeavors.

Welcome to New Staff

As changes come and go, we are continuing to grow our program and we've recently added two new staff.

Our new Adminstrative Specialist is Teresa Dixon, who joins us from the City of Austin's Watershed Protection Development Review Department. Teresa can be reached on the main green building number, 512-482-5300 or by email.

Sarah Talkington, Conservation Program Associate, joined Austin Energy Green Building in January 2007. She is working with our Commercial and Multi-family programs. Sarah relocated from Florida in 1993 to attend the University of Texas, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering. Sarah is an expert in building acoustics, as well as noise and vibrational control. She interned at the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems where she gained valuable hands-on experience working on the rainwater collection system and building paths, bridges and stone walls. Sarah can be reached at 512-482-5393 or by email.
