New Version of the Single-Family Rating Released
A new version of the Green Building Rating, Single-Family Home Rating 8.0, is now in effect for all projects except those begun under a previous rating.
Why a New Version?
The Single-Family Home Rating 8.0 reflects increasing national concerns over energy security, rising energy costs, and water availability. It also reflects changes in building practice, codes, federal standards, and the national trend towards home performance testing.
Highlights of the NEW Basic Requirements
 |
Minimum 500 sq. ft. net conditioned living space per ton of cooling. |
 |
Duct leakage no greater than 10%. |
 |
Air barriers outside knee walls and inside tubs, showers, and fireplaces. |
 |
Fluorescent lighting in at least 5 fixtures. |
 |
Minimum of two toilets selected from City of Austin Water Conservation list (one for one-bath homes). |
Manual J Reports
As in the past, Manual J Reports must be submitted as part of the Rating. We strongly advise submitting them prior to construction, to be sure that selected cooling equipment will meet Rating requirements. S.M.A.R.T. Housing Program participants and production builders need an approved Manual J for each home plan. Click here for information on Single-Family Manual J Inputs.
Questions or Concerns?
If you have difficulty using the 8.0 rating, or haven't received a copy of the new rating, please contact Mary McLeod, Green Building Program Residential Coordinator, at 512-482-5302. We do not post the rating online because we think it is important for us to communicate with anyone wanting to use the rating and we want to be sure that rated homes are inspected at least twice by GBP staff.
