Fees and Deposits

Service Initiation Fees

Service Fees
 Initiation fee – electric/water service, $20; solid waste service, $15
 Deposit
 Same day service requests, add an additional $55

Deposits

Residential Deposit
 A $200 deposit is required to begin service.
 Interest currently paid at .83%, simple; adjusted yearly
 Deposit applied to the account after Customer Payment Standards
are met
 Deposit waived with letter of reference from another electric, gas or water utility or record of satisfactory compliance with Customer Payment Standards on a previous City of Austin Utility account

Commercial Deposit
 1/6 of the average annual or estimated billing at the same or comparable commercial service address for the previous 12 months
 Payment of deposit required to begin service
 Interest paid at .83%, simple; adjusted yearly
 Deposit applied to the account after Customer Payment Standards
are met
 Deposit waived with letter of reference for commercial service from another electric, gas or water utility or record of satisfactory compliance with Customer Payment Standards on a previous City of Austin Utility account

Deposit Waivers
Letter of Reference
Austin Energy will waive your deposit upon receipt of a letter of reference from your current electric, gas or water utility. Have the letter faxed to (512) 505-4037 or e-mailed to myaccount@coautilities.com.

Letter of Reference must show:
 No disconnections for non-payment during the last 12 consecutive billing cycles for residential customers
 No disconnections for non-payment during the last 24 consecutive billing cycles for commercial customers
 No late payments
 No outstanding balances

Letter of Reference must include:
 Utility service provider’s name (electric, water or gas utilities only);
 Name on the utility account (must be the same as name of customer requesting service);
 Type of account (residential, commercial);
 Service address;
 Service dates;
 Payment history; and
 Average bill amount

City of Austin Utility Account History
Austin Energy will waive your deposit if you have a record of satisfactory compliance with Customer Payment Standards (Utility Service Regulations, Section 15-9-75)

Account must show:
 No disconnections for non-payment
 No late payments
 No outstanding balances
 12 months of consecutive service

Establish Utility Service
Request service using Online Customer Care. We will need the following:

 Name and identification information (social security number
and valid driver license number);
 Service address;
 Date to begin service; and
 Customer contact information

Call our Customer Care Contact Center at (512) 494-9400 if same-day service is required.

Utility service requests are subject to authentication of information submitted.
