About Electricity
Light Up Austin
Light Up Austin is an interactive presentation
that teaches third graders about:
 |
how electricity works |
 |
energy efficiency |
 |
renewable energy |
Students learn how electricity is made and
sent to homes and businesses. The activity uses a simple model
of a city’s electric system.
Students take on roles as Austin Energy
electricians, customers and other city residents. During the
exercise they learn what causes power outages and take an
active role in restoring power. The activity includes songs
and activity books.
The Green Classroom Community Environmental
Learning Center, a nonprofit corporation, provides this program.
The Center teaches environmental issues in schools. To learn
more about the Green Classroom Community Environmental Learning
Center, contact Austin Energy's
