Power In Westlake Hills Restored

A power outage affecting a portion of Westlake Hills and areas west of Loop 360 occurred this morning at 6:26 am. An initial estimate put the number of customers affected at approximately 10,000. However, a later review of the circuits involved indicated the total number of customers affected at just under 2,400. Power had been restored to all customers by 8:05 am.

The outage was caused by an equipment failure in a substation serving the Westlake area west of Loop 360. It is estimated repairs and equipment replacement will take two days to complete.

When the outage occurred, Austin Energy crews were dispatched directly from their homes to the affected substation. Austin Energy quick response crews take vehicles home so they can respond directly should outages occur.

Austin Energy was able to re-route power to customers affected by the outage. Power had been restored to approximately 75% of customers by 7:50 am and to all customers by 8:05 am. Austin Energy serves approximately 350,000 customers.
