Green Building workshop provides tips on
saving money when buying, remodeling home
Austinites who are getting ready to build,
buy, or remodel a home will learn how to get the most for
their money by choosing durable, low-maintenance materials,
landscaping that saves water and time and other features that
make a home energy efficient and healthier at a one-day workshop
presented by the Austin
Energy Green Building Program.
The workshop, "Green by Design",
will be Saturday, July 19, from
8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Zilker Botanical Garden Center,
2220 Barton Springs Road.
For $30 participants receive a full day
of instruction, lunch, and the award-winning Green By Design
CD-ROM and accompanying notebook. Staff members of Austin
Energy's Green Building Program, all with many years of experience
in homebuilding and remodeling, will lead the workshop. People
interested in signing up for the workshop should call Toye
Goodson at 505-3700 by Thursday, July 17.
The Austin Energy Green Building Program
is a community resource that promotes energy efficient and
environmentally responsible building practices through consumer
education and technical training of building professionals.
The Program also serves as a resource for people who wish
to build, buy, or remodel their home to be more energy efficient
and environmentally sound, as well as for those who just want
to make their home a comfortable and healthy place to live.
Austin Energy’s Green Building Program
is the largest in the nation and has served as a model for
similar programs all over the world. The Program’s members
include local architects, designers, engineers, builders,
and other building professionals.
