Alternative Transportation

Alternative Fuel Vehicles
Offering fueling stations for electric vehicles contributes to the reduction of fossil fuel use.

Electric and hybrid electric cars reduce air pollution, and make the most of the fuel you buy. The newest hybrid electric cars are achieving a fuel economy averaging 55mpg.

Bikes and Showers
Offering bicycle racks and showers for bicycle users helps keep polluting cars off the road.

America Bikes estimates that 1 million Americans currently bike to work. According to America Bikes, “Bicycling has tremendous potential to improve communities throughout the United States at a time of crippling highway congestion, poor air quality, costly energy dependence, and a growing obesity epidemic due to physical inactivity.”

Parking Capacity
Providing preferred parking for carpools and vanpools, and limiting available parking spaces encourages ecological auto use. eRideShare estimates that a typical commuter can save $1300 per year by carpooling.

The City of Austin and Austin Energy partner with Capital Metro to provide employees a wide range of commuting options and incentives.
