Help with High Bills
Occasionally, customers may receive an electric
bill that seems to be out of line with previous bills. There
are a variety of factors that may lead to an increase.
Factors that Contribute to
Higher Energy Use
Most often, a higher electric bill
is due to increased energy use. Factors that affect energy
use include:
 |
Weather – varying conditions
from one billing period to the next; during extreme weather,
air conditioning or heating equipment works longer and
harder to maintain comfort level. |
 |
Changes in operating habits –
adjusting the thermostat settings. |
 |
Malfunctioning equipment – water
heaters, air conditioners, refrigerators, or timers on
electrical equipment that don’t shut off. |
 |
Increased number of days in a billing period. |
