About Electricity

Light Up Austin
This fun and interactive classroom activity teaches third graders how electricity is generated and how it gets to their home. Students interact with a scaled-down model of a city’s electric system and take on roles as Austin Energy employees to supply power to the town. The model includes a power plant and control room, a substation and power lines. It also includes a wind turbine and solar panel for a discussion about these clean, limitless energy sources of the future. This activity also includes songs, activity books and various mementos of the experience.
